The Challenge
Computer Company, a Royal Oak-based computer networking company, has a thriving business. What they lacked was an effective web presence that could help generate more business as well as promote existing services. Computer Company wanted a site that was simple and straightforward, but stylish and visually engaging at the same time. Knowing that many of their clients were on low-bandwidth connections, keeping download times small was also a prerequisite.
The Solution
To deliver the goods, Inspire Consulting got to work with VL Design and set about converting Computer Company's wishes into a functioning site.
The first step was creating the design. It had to reflect the culture of the company (one of consummate professionals who love having fun at work), and be intuitive and user-friendly. For this stage in the project VL Design took the lead, a set about quickly designing a fun, whimsical, and stylish layout for the pages.
Inspire Consulting then began work building the site. To preserve the font quality while ensuring download times did not exceed acceptable limits, we incorporated most of the text into a small Macromedia Flash movie. This movie loads when the home page is loaded, resulting in the added bonus that once the homepage has finished loading, navigating the rest of the pages is virtually instantaneous: perfect for Computer Company's clients with slower connection speeds.
The Results
The site, although just launched, has been extremely well received. While it is too early to determine the extent of its success, it is safe to say that the site will be a valuable addition to Computer Company's marketing tools, and looks set to provide substantial (greater than 100%) return on investment in the short-term. The site fits Computer Company like a glove right now, and with such a simple and effective design, adding on to it as Computer Company's online needs grow will be a snap. No wonder they're delighted with finished product.
